Every year Ernst and Young (EY), a global transaction and advisory service, holds the EY Entrepreneur of the Year Awards to recognize the "people who inspire others with their vision, leadership and achievement," according to the company's press release. Citizens of over sixty countries pitch their businesses and ideas to an independent panel of judges made up of modern business leaders.
Dr. Michael Woodward of Fox Business News attended the awards and was able to uncover some of the standout's secrets to success. He noticed some similar characteristics between the event's most well-received submissions, including a growing trend of private companies addressing large-scale social problems, much like we at On Point Executive Center do.
At the event, Nobel Prize winner and the "father of microfinance" Muhammad Yunus talked about the power of entrepreneurs as a force for social change. He advised entrepreneurs to abandon corporate social responsibility programs in favor of "actually taking steps to solve real problems," Dr. Woodward reports.
The winner of the Social Responsibility Award was Vivian Clecak of Human Options, which is a non-profit organization in California that helps abused women and their communities end the cycle of domestic violence. Their focus on effective marketing practices and igniting community engagement through both grassroots and digital means were the object of great praise at the awards.
